Welcome to my new blog!
As some of you might know, sometimes I say to myself, "I have an idea! I'm gonna write a blog!" and then after a few months or so, I say, "What in the world was I thinking?" And then I generally stop.
Hopefully, that won't be the case with this one. However, this is also not aimed to be a blog I will keep for years on end. I am not imagining myself to be like those bloggers who are good at this and get paid to sit at home in their pajamas, spewing profound (or maybe not so profound) thoughts about life while they sip their cappuccinos or whatever. This is just a temporary blog I will use to keep track of the hiking adventures I plan to take this year. Read it or not. I don't care (okay, well, I would like someone to read it). But, this is more for me to stay committed to a goal.
Speaking of goals...
I guess I should write about why I am creating this blog. Let me start with a brief story.
Once upon a time...
There was this girl from Utah. This girl from Utah decided she was sick of Utah. So, this girl from Utah moved to Florida and to attend school in the most beautiful, beachiest city in the United States (yes, I understand beachiest is not a word – just come to the terms with the fact that I will not write "properly" and will sometimes create words). This girl loved Florida and the quaint town she lived in quite a bit. In fact, she considered never leaving. Then, as often happens, this girl found other dreams that were worth leaving beloved things behind for. To make this story short, she moved back to Utah in order to pursue graduate school at an excellent program.
When she moved back to Utah, she started to remember that Utah did not have beaches. And that Utah was rugged. And that Utah had this thing called snow that made this girl miserably cold for several months out of the year (just so we're clear, this girl is always cold unless it's at least seventy-five degrees outside of intense ultraviolet rays, and she hates the cold and, therefore, hates snow). This girl became slightly unhappy and wanted to move back to Florida.
Then, one day, a light bulb went off in her head: Maybe if I get outside and actually explore what Utah has to offer, I'd be less slightly unhappy.
I guess I should backtrack a little and let you know that, even though this girl grew up in Utah, she never did much hiking or camping. She was the kind of girl that read lots of books and whose idea of fun was to go out to eat (because eating is always fun) or explore the City or something that did not involve much movement. Also, one of the few times she actually did go hiking, she got lost and search and rescue had to come find her (another story for another time). So, needless to say that, even though this girl grew up in Utah, she hadn't really seen much of the outdoor-parts of Utah.
This finally brings me to my main point: this girl became determined to start hiking a lot – as much as she could. She created a blog to keep track of all the hikes she takes.
What this blog will include...
I will try not to bore readers (if there ever will be any) with pointless prose about climbing up mountains or with descriptions of trees, because I'm sure readers honestly could care less. I will most likely just post pictures and say something like, "Hey, I climbed this mountain, LOL! Check it out!" And then maybe I will eventually give up on this whole dream all together and end up posting pictures of me on my couch reading Virginia Woolf or something.
We shall see.
