I want to start this post by giving a special shout-out to my students who informed me today they read my blog. Thanks for keeping me motivated and for caring! Why am I so lucky to have such amazing students?
As far as this past weekend, it was a busy one. I was not sure if I would get any hiking time in. Zach was in town, our dear family friend Kevin was in town, and there was a last-minute Bear Lake trip that kept the weekend busy. In addition, it was the Fourth of July weekend, so there was much partying to be had. This is also why I am behind on writing this post, because ever since Monday I have been busy trying to catch up and stay on top of school and work.
I did manage to get some hiking time in with my love. Sunday evening we took a drive up Farmington Canyon. When Zach and I were first dating, he took me up that canyon one evening. He wanted to take me to the top, but the top was closed, so we ended up walking a bit to a lookout. There was a raccoon trying to chase us and he told me he would save me by fighting it with his flashlight, if it came to that. That, my friends, is the lovely history behind Farmington Canyon that Zach and I share. Anyway, we decided to try Farmington Canyon one more time. The top of the canyon was open this time. We parked about half a mile from the top and hiked up to Francis Peak, where the radar towers are. Sure, it was not much of a hike, but you can make it a longer one if you park farther down. We took it slow and enjoyed the sunset, which was stunning. From the peak, you can see the Great Salt Lake. The lake was catching the sun's rays and sparkling – it was magnificent. I want to go back there again soon.
In other news, I got a FitBit as an early birthday present. For those of you who do not know, a FitBit is a watch that keeps track of your miles, calories burned, steps taken, etc. There is an app for it that the watch can sync with and give you even more results, such as your sleep patterns. I have been addicted to this FitBit since I got it over the weekend. It is great for hiking, because you can time your hike and it will keep track of miles for you, which is what I have been wanting (all the apps I have tried have failed me). I cannot wait to take it on all my adventures this summer! Those of you who have FitBits, you should be my friend on the app so we can motivate each other!
Well, that is all. Check out the pictures of my hike (which do not do the view justice). Thanks for reading and all the support.
