Today, Mary and I hiked Grandeur Peak up Mill Creek Canyon. All of you folks who were going to join us and didn't, you missed out!
The night before it was raining incredibly hard, and the forecast was looking doubtful for good weather on Saturday morning. I was nervous it was going to rain, so I came prepared to be cold and wet. Well, it ended up being perfect weather (although, I think I was slightly overdressed).
Looking back on my limited hiking experiences, I do not recall ever hiking more than three miles. I definitely have never done a peak hike before. Grandeur Peak is 6.2 miles total, and considering that the other two hikes I have done this year were around two and three miles, it was a bit challenging. The elevation gain was 2,299 feet, which is epic to think about. It is pretty steep in some parts, rocky in some areas, and the trail was muddy and slippery for part of the way today (probably due to the rain from the night before). BUT, I made it! It took us around three hours to do the whole thing. The hike is gorgeous and the view on one side is of Salt Lake City, and on the other side is of a ton of mountains. I wish I could provide more hiking and mountainy jargon to make these descriptions sound intelligent, but that is all I've got.
Thank you, Mary, for taking me on this hike!
